Virtual Reality is not just fun and entertainment gadget – it has gone far and beyond.
Google Chrome allows you to explore the web in virtual reality. It can only be used if you are browsing the web on your smartphone; however, the functionality exists for all the websites. Some of the webpages VR experience will be better and intriguing than others.
Moreover, the users will get an option for a desktop 360 view making it more compelling for the games or videos. The webpage with rich text will not be exciting or easy to navigate through. The majority of people does not feel comfortable while strapping the VR headset on their face and long use may cause sickness.
To access the features, you need to have Chrome 61; in addition, you need to have one of the Google’s daydream view headsets. The new feature allows users to visit any website through VR, move between 2D and immersive viewing for sites supporting WebVR and follow links between pages, according to Chromium Evangelist François Beaufort.
Users can have hands-on experience by browsing through any website on chrome and putting the smartphone into their Daydream view headset.
It is just the start of web browsing in Virtual Reality, yet there is a lot more to come in the future. Moreover, Google is also going to introduce a new tool that allows you to permanently mute websites that play videos automatically with sound. Users can also try Chrome Canary, unstable and experimental version of the browser.
Google is not alone and taking interest in WebVR. Mozilla is also one of the supporters of WebVR, which announced a dedicated AR/VR browser dubbed Firefox Reality earlier in this month.
