Microsoft stepped in augmented reality game back in 2016 with the launch of HoloLens. The headset featured a mixed reality, combining the virtual images with the real world on a transparent display. It was highly appreciated by early adopters and developers, accepting HoloLens as promising and something innovative. Now the second and improved version is going to launch, HoloLens 2, suggested by reports, but still unclear up to what extent.
According to The Verge, HoloLens 2 will be launched by the end of this year and news from Thurrott.com has claimed that the new headset codenamed “Sydney” could be released in the first quarter of 2019.
The details about HoloLens 2 are not on the board yet, but according to Thurrott, it will feature a higher field of view, enhanced displays, comfortable and lighter frame and better quality chips. HoloLens 2 will also include Microsoft’s latest generation of the Kinect sensor. In addition, the headset is likely to include an ARM-based processor that will help in boosting battery life.
The price would be lower than its predecessor that cost around $3000 and targeted towards developers. The later version will be targeted more towards consumers and will be more affordable.
Microsoft has been showing interest in mixed reality that includes AR and VR. The upcoming HoloLens will also include a variant of Windows 10 just like in the previous version.
