Blockchain, a public ledger, records, secure and verifies digital transactions using the network, and is largely adopted by many industries. The technology is not limited to financial transactions, but largely impacted and disrupted various industries including healthcare, retail, and supply chain.
With much of the surprises and news buzzing around each day, HTC has unveiled the first native blockchain powered android phone, Exodus. The new phone comes up with a built-in secure hardware and universal wallet to support decentralized applications and support cryptocurrencies including Ethereum and Bitcoin networks.
Phil Chen, the creator of HTC Vive at the consensus conference in New York City, made the announcement. He said that the new phone will support multiple blockchain protocols and the company’s mission is to support complete blockchain ecosystem in order to help underlying protocols expand their base of dedicated nodes.
He added that HTC Exodus would offer high standards of data protection and security.
“I want to see a world where the end consumers can truly own their data—browsing history, identity, assets, wallets, emails, messaging—without the need for central authorities.”
“There is a lot of work ahead of us, but I believe the mobile hardware layer can contribute significantly to our new decentralized world”.
Chen didn’t reveal the price of HTC Exodus, but one thing is for sure that HTC will accept cryptocurrency as a means of payment when it is available.
HTC is not alone and the first one to think of launching a blockchain powered phone. Last year in September, Sirin Labs announced the blockchain smartphone, which is likely to be released in October 2018.
However, the mystery is yet to be unveiled that what these phones can offer to enhance the experience of DApp and cryptocurrency users over the regular smartphones.
In our opinion, the blockchain-powered smartphones can help in offering better security and user experience by deploying wallet storage on the phone. Moreover, it can help user directly trade native cryptocurrency with peers on phone’s network without bearing hefty mining fees. In the meanwhile, we have to wait until a blockchain-powered smartphone is launched and available on the shelves.
