Google is always on top of headlines with updates and news that astounds everyone. The Medical Brain team at Google is now training its AI to predict the death risk among hospital patients. The early trial and testing showed that it was way better and accurate than a hospital’s own system.
The updated algorithm by Google can quickly analyze a person’s medical record to assist doctors to make accurate predictions about a patient’s health along with when the patient will die, according to Bloomberg report.
In one of the cases, doctors projected that a woman having cancer arrived at a hospital with fluids in lungs had 9.3% chances of dying during her stay, according to Bloomberg. However, the updated algorithm by Google predicted that the risk of her death was 19.9%. The woman died a few days later.
Google is constantly working on bringing improvements in AI technology to solve some of the problems pertaining in the health sector. AI is proving to be capable at analyzing huge amounts of data and reduces the work hours required by a human being.
Google’s AI incorporates neural networks, optimally gathering data and using it to learn and improve analysis. According to Bloomberg, Google’s tech can predict a host of patient aftermaths that includes the duration of stay in hospitals of patients, chances of re-admissions and chances of dying soon.
Google’s updated algorithm can retrieve notes on PDF or old charts to make forecasts, and analyze the problems along with the solution, Bloomberg wrote. It could help doctors come up with a better verdict.
Forecasting death will undoubtedly spark fear among people who worry that AI will take the control over humans in the near future. The Google’s latest technology brings about a number of ethical concerns about, who will gain access, and how it is used.
For instance, the AI predictions could help in solving problems like making decisions about patient’s insurance coverage seeking medical treatment or hospitals who have limited beds and trying to allocate it for patients.
According to the report, Google’s system is faster and precise than any other techniques involving patient’s medical history. Ultimately, Google would like to opt for UX design AI tools in order to precisely predict symptoms and diseases into clinics.
